Careers in Medicine
Supporting Health Care Education
Through our Careers in Medicine Program, Summit Medical Group Foundation (SMGF) enhances what students are learning in the classroom, while helping them choose a practice specialty.
Upcoming Doctor Shortage
Did you know that by 2025, demand for doctors will exceed supply by a range of 46,000 to 90,000? To combat this growing problem, SMGF is dedicated to making careers in health care not only a viable option, but also a priority for students in the northern New Jersey area.
Unfortunately, there are few opportunities for young people in our local area to see firsthand what health care professionals actually do on a daily basis. SMGF hopes to change this by providing multiple opportunities for high school and college students to experience what it is like to be a health care professional for a day.
Listen to what previous participants have said about their experience in the Careers in Medicine Program.
Who can participate?
Any high school in New Jersey can enroll its students.
What do students do?
As a group, students in the Careers in Medicine Program will spend one day with a variety of health care professionals, gaining experience through hands-on activities. A lunchtime openforum, question-and-answer session with SMG’s health care professionals adds an extra dimension to the day’s educational value. Practical skills taught include surgical suturing.
